Common Washer Repair Issues We Handle

Water remaining in tub after the cycle
The single most common washer call we handle. Typically a clogged drain pump filter, a failed drain pump motor, a lid switch issue on top-loaders, or a blocked hose. We clear or replace the faulty component and run a full drain cycle to verify before we close out.
Spin cycle not engaging or underperforming
On top-loaders, a broken drive belt is the most frequent culprit. Front-loaders tend to fail at the motor coupling, door latch, or control board. If clothes come out still soaking wet, the spin isn’t doing its job. We identify the exact component and replace it.
Water visible on the floor — rarely starts there
Washer leaks rarely originate where you see them. Water tracks along the machine base before pooling on the floor, which means the puddle is almost never directly below the actual failure point. On front-loaders, the door boot seal is the most frequent cause. Top-loaders tend to fail at the pump housing, the water inlet valve, or a loose hose fitting. We follow the water backward to its true source.
Machine won't start or respond at all
The lid switch on top-loaders and the door latch on front-loaders are the first things we check — both prevent the machine from running when not fully engaged. After that: a blown thermal fuse, bad control board, or timer issue. We work through the diagnostic chain systematically.
Shaking violently during the spin cycle
Worn shock absorbers on front-loaders or failed suspension rods on top-loaders allow the drum to pound rather than float. We replace the worn suspension components and check drum bearings for secondary wear while the machine is open.
Tub not filling — washer sits idle
When a washer sits without filling, the water inlet valve is the most likely explanation. This valve has mesh screens that filter incoming water, and those screens accumulate sediment over time until flow drops to a trickle or stops. Cleaning or swapping the valve resolves most cases. If it checks out fine, we move to the water level pressure switch and the control board.
Banging, grinding, or squealing — noise diagnosis
Washing machine noises are usually diagnostic. A rhythmic bang during spin almost always points to a drum bearing starting to fail or something caught between the drum and the tub. Grinding during agitation is typically a motor or pump bearing that’s losing lubrication. A high-pitched squeal is speed-dependent and usually traces to the drive belt. We zero in on the noise source before recommending any parts.
